Welcome to our two new trustee directors: Poon Fletcher, the successful nominee in our member director election, and our recently appointed employer director Cassandra Williams.
Our election for the role of Member Director ‘A’ on the Commonwealth Bank Group Super trustee board was held during September 2018, with the following ballot results:
Poon Fletcher was elected and will serve a three-year term beginning from 1 December 2018. She will be a member of the trustee’s Risk & Audit Committee.
Poon has been an employee of the Commonwealth Bank Group (the Group) since 2009 and is currently Acting General Manager, Banking Legal, Group Corporate Affairs.
Poon has extensive legal experience in an in-house financial services function, together with a proven track record for leading transformational change and growing high-performing, customer-centric legal teams that operate with agility, embrace collaboration and champion change.
Prior to joining the Group, Poon was a legal counsel within Westpac’s Banking Products Group and has also worked with legal firms Kemp Strang Lawyers (Sydney) and DLA Solicitors (UK).
Poon has completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Agriculture and a Common Professional Examination (CPE) in Law, and is an admitted solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW.
Effective 15 November 2018, Cassandra Williams has joined our trustee board following her appointment as an employer director. She will also serve as a member of the trustee’s Risk and Audit Committee.
Cassandra has an extensive background in compliance and regulation, with experience spanning compliance advisory, risk management (market, credit and operational risk), incident management, regulatory engagement, policy and framework development, governance, advocacy and business change programmes.
Cassandra has been with the Group since 2010. In her current role as CommSec’s Chief Risk Officer, Cassandra and her team provide risk management support to CommSec and AUSIEX across all aspects of operational risk, market risk, credit risk and compliance.
Cassandra has previously held senior compliance roles with the Group, Investec Bank (UK) and Financial Services Authority (UK), as well as practising as a solicitor in London and Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Law and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, and is an admitted solicitor of the Supreme Courts of Western Australia and Tasmania and the Law Society of England and Wales.
Our board comprises nine director positions: three member directors who are elected by eligible voting members, three employer directors who are appointed by Commonwealth Bank as the fund’s primary employer sponsor, and three independent directors, one of whom serves as chair of the board.
The board’s primary responsibilities are setting the strategic and business priorities for the fund, administering the fund on behalf of members and beneficiaries, investing the fund’s assets and ensuring the fund operates in accordance with its governing rules and relevant laws.
