HOW DO I…make a spouse contribution?

Things to know before you start:

  • The contributing spouse may be eligible for a tax offset (rebate) for these contributions (eligibility criteria applies).
  • Tax does not generally apply to these contributions if made within the contributions caps.
  • There are caps, or limits, on the amount that can be contributed to super without incurring additional tax. After-tax contributions are included as non-concessional contributions for the purposes of the caps. It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not breach the caps if you want to avoid paying excess tax.
  • In some cases, there may be restrictions on when or how super contributions can be made.

Getting started:

  • Spouse contribution by BPAY
    • The contributing spouse should contact their bank or financial institution and use the following details to make a payment via BPAY.

      • Biller code: 697789 (only for spouse contributions)
      • Reference number: 3 + the receiving spouse’s Accumulate Plus account number (e.g. if the account number is 0250 0123 4567 then the BPAY reference number would be: 3025001234567)

*BPAY is a registered trademark of BPAY Pty Ltd ABN 69 079 137 518

  • Spouse contribution by direct credit
    • The contributing spouse should contact their bank or financial institution and use the following details to make a payment via direct credit online (you cannot make a direct credit super contribution from a bank branch):

      • BSB: 064-785
      • Account number: Last 9 digits of the receiving spouse’s Accumulate Plus account number (e.g. if your account number is 0250 0123 4567 then your Direct Credit account number would be: 001234567)
      • Reference: SP (only for spouse contributions) – if you don’t include this reference, the contribution will be allocated as an employer SG contribution, which may have significant tax implications.

  • Spouse contribution by cheque
    • Complete our Additional investment form and return it with a cheque payable to ‘Commonwealth Bank Group Super, [name]’ (where ‘name’ is the full name that is shown on the receiving spouse’s Accumulate Plus account).
